Chapter1:INTRODUCTION

Music Rhythm Operated Dancing Light
In this, we are going to show you how to make Music Rhythm Operated Dancing Light using LEDs & Transistors. You might have seen the Disco Lights or DJ lights or light during a function that turns ON and OFF according to the beats or Rhythm of the music. This Music Rhythm Operated Dancing Light circuit is based on transistor BC547. This circuit is very simple and easy to build, it just requires a few basic components.

These lights turn ON & OFF according to the length and pitch of music beats or rhythm. Basically these are designed to pick the high-intensity sound like Bass sound. So these lights follow the high pitch beats in music like drum beats and Turn ON and OFF according to music pattern.

Components Required:
The circuit requires a few of the basic components which are listed below:

1. Transistors BC547 - 7
2. LED1 - 6
3. Capacitor - 100nF or O.1uF
4. Resistor 1M -1
5. Resistor 10K - 2
6. Resistor 22 Ω - 6
7. Mic. - 1
8. Switch ON/OFF - 1
9. 9 Volt DC Power Supply

1 . Transistor BC547
BC547 is usually used for current amplifier, quick switching and pulse-width modulation (PWM). Therefore, if you need to control the speed of a motor or actuator in some of your projects, you can simply use this transistor to achieve it.

 1.  Led

LED stands for light emitting diode. LED lighting products produce light up to 90% more efficiently than incandescent light bulbs. How do they work? An electrical current passes through a microchip, which illuminates the tiny light sources we call LEDs and the result is visible light.

2  .Resistor

A resistor is a passive two-terminal electrical component that implements electrical resistance as a circuit element. In electronic circuits, resistors are used to reduce current flow, adjust signal levels, to divide voltages, bias active elements, and terminate transmission lines, among other uses

3 . capacitor

A capacitor is a device that stores electrical energy in an electric field by virtue of accumulating electric charges on two close surfaces insulated from each other. It is a passive electronic component with two terminals. The effect of a capacitor is known as capacitance.

 4 . Mic

A microphone is a device that translates sound vibrations in the air into electronic signals and scribes them to a recording medium or over a loudspeaker. Microphones enable many types of audio recording devices for purposes including communications of many kinds, as well as music vocals, speech and sound recording

5 .Switch

An electric switch is a device that interrupts the electron flow in a circuit. Switches are primarily binary devices: either fully on or off and light switches have a simple design. When the switch is turned off, the circuit breaks and the power flow is interrupted. Circuits consist of a source of power and load.

 6 .Battery

A battery is a source of electric power consisting of one or more electrochemical cells with external connections for powering electrical devices. When a battery is supplying power, its positive terminal is the cathode and its negative terminal is the anode

Circuit Diagram:
Assemble the circuit on the breadboard as per the circuit diagram.

How the music rhythm LED circuit works:

The music rhythm is sensed by the microphone and the microphone converts the sound into electric pulses.
Then the electric pulses are fed to the base of the BC547 NPN transistor, the transistor amplifies the electric pulse signal.
After that, the amplified signal is fed to the base of the TIP122 NPN power transistor. For the positive pulse at the base, the TIP122 transistor turns on.
The 12V LED strips are connected with the collector pin of the TIP122 transistor. So when the TIP122 transistor turns on the current can flow through the 12V LED strips, and the LED strips turn on. When the TIP122 transistor turns off the current can not flow through the 12V LED strips, so the LED strips turn off.

Testing the Music Rhythm LED Circuit

Connect any 12V LED strip at the output. You can also connect multiple LED strips in parallel.

Then connect the 12V DC supply at input. The current rating depends on the TIP122 transistor. You can also use MOSFET instead of the transistor.

Now the LED strip should blink with the music rhythm.
